Tramista
Generative screens for print.
01 What it is
Tramista turns an image into 1-bit plates ready to print: Riso, screen printing, offset or engraving. The screens are generative: reaction-diffusion, mezzotint rocker, lines and engraving, spirals, blue noise, error diffusion, and flow lines that follow the contours of the image.
02 Inks
One ink, or two to four Riso spot inks on a chosen paper, separated by tone or by colour. The preview shows the inks on the paper in linear light, close to what the drum will print.
03 How it’s built
A single executable for macOS and Windows, written in Rust, with the patterns computed on the GPU. Exports a 1-bit PNG per plate with its dpi, SVG per plate or in layers, and PDF with vector marks. Images stay on the computer and the licence is checked offline.
