01 What it is

Fontista is a font editor for macOS and Windows: draw, space, kern and export typefaces in one light program. Start from a blank Latin set where every slot shows a grey ghost, write letters with a stylus and get clean curves, or open a scan or an existing font: .glyphs, .ufo, .ttf, .otf.

02 The lab

Two workshops make letters differently. Modules builds them from a grid of cells, round, diamond or square, with diagonal bridges and adjustable fillets; a square module gives a pixel font. Liquid melts a stroke of matter into a letter. Either way the result is a real contour of the font.

03 Under the hood

Rust, with an egui interface and wgpu rendering on Metal, Vulkan or DirectX 12. Masters and interpolation, automatic spacing and kerning, collision checks and a poster export. Exports TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, variable fonts and UFO. The download is a free trial; a licence opens the exports.
