Pupitre Mono
Type for machines that make music.
01 What it is
Pupitre Mono is a technical monospaced family in eight weights, Thin to ExtraBold, plus a variable font, drawn for screens, synth panels and terminals. Every glyph sits on a 500-unit cell; Hangul and the CJK companions take two cells, as in a terminal.
02 How it was drawn
Drawn in Fontista from skeletons: each letter is a set of centre-lines inked by a round brush with cut ends, computed for each weight so that the masters interpolate. Hangul is composed from jamo in six layouts, all 11,172 syllables. Free companion fonts, Pupitre Mono JP and SC, add kana, kanji and hanzi redrawn from open stroke data (KanjiVG, Make Me a Hanzi).
03 Coverage
Latin with Vietnamese, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic with Persian and Urdu (joined forms, lam-alef ligatures, vowel marks), Hangul, box drawing, arrows, transport and music symbols. OpenType contextual forms, mark positioning and ligatures.
